I cannot connect my device for the first time

Almost all Qnect products use your home Wi-Fi (wireless networking) to connect to the internet. WiFi is useful but does have limits. keep these factors in mind when connection your product to your Home WiFi :

  1. Qnect product can only connect to 2.4GHz networks
  2. Connecting a Qnect product can be easy
  3. Wi-Fi signals are weakened by obstructions.
  4. WiFi can travel quite far, and handle lots of traffic, but it has limits.
  5. Wi-Fi technology is always improving. Is your router up to date?

Qnect product can only connect to 2.4GHz networks

Connect your phone, which has the app installed, to your 2.4GHz home network. 5GHz WiFi networks are not supported. You can also temporarily disable your 5Ghz network. If you can't do this yourself, ask advice from someone in your neighborhood or check with your network operator to disable this frequency.

Connecting a Qnect product can be easy

Make sure your smartphone is connected to your 2.4Ghz WiFi network at the beginning of the installation. Make sure that Bluetooth is activated on your Smartphone, this enables the app to automatically find the device you are trying to connect*

Make sure the product is in connection mode. When powered on for the first time, a device automatically is in connection mode. But it can happen that this is not the case. If necessary, reset the product according to the manual of the device.

Make sure that the LED or light on the product starts blinking fast (about 1 time per second or faster). Some camera products only make a sound when in connection mode, make sure if you reset the device, this sound is audible. Depending on the device, press the “+” button on the top right corner in the app. From here it depends how to app reacts on a different device :

  • When pressing on the "plus" sign, the app will ask your WiFi password, fill in the password correct.
  • When connection a camera device, the app will produce a QR code which needs to be held in front of the lens of you camera (With a distance of about 15-20cm). When the QR code is read correct, the camera will make an audible sound. This means it is connecting to your network.
  • Confirm in the app

If a device is not found or not connected, it is also possible to connect your product in another way (AP mode). This option is available for all devices, except for cameras. Here, the reset procedure is different.

WiFi signals are weakened by obstructions

Walls, floors, furniture, and appliances all block Wi-Fi signals. To improve performance, try the following suggestions:

  • If your wifi router is inside a cabinet, closet, or hidden by furniture, move it out into the open, at least six inches from any wall.
  • Move your wifi router to a room that is closer to your Qnect products, if possible.

WiFi can travel quite far, and handle lots of traffic, but it has limits.

Even with the best wifi router and minimal obstructions, wifi signals get weaker as they travel. If your router is far away from your Qnect products, consider moving it closer, or add an extender or even a mesh networking system to extend and improve your wifi network. You can always ask advise from your current network operator, as they have such solutions already at hand for you.

If many devices are connected to your Wi-Fi network (such as phones, computers, tablets or TVs), they always slow your connection enough which can affect your Qnect products. To free up your Wi-Fi network, disconnect devices you seldom use, and connect heavy-use devices (such as TV’s, smartphones, tablets and computers to your home 5Ghz network or try using an Ethernet cable, when available.

As phones, computers, and other devices improve, they demand more from your Wi-Fi router. Some older routers (more than a few years old) don’t work as well when supporting multiple modern devices. It can be helpful to occasionally unplug the device a few seconds and turning it back. If you suspect your Wi-Fi router may need an upgrade, contact your internet service provider, or router supplier for more options.

A general router, received from you network operator, usually cannot handle more than 15-20 devices in total. When adding more devices it slows down your router significantly. Specially if you only have streaming devices or image processing devices. In this case your need to expand your network with an extender or mesh networking device.
